What sunscreen products are spray tan friendly?

Sunscreen products that will not strip your tan are:

Sunbum and Coola. Avoid aerosols as they may contain alcohol which will strip your tan.  If you are tanning for a Holidayor Honeymoon , I will give you some tips and tricks to help you maintain your tan whilst away. 

How long does an appointment take?

An appointment lasts for 30 minutes, maybe a few minutes more if it is your first appointment or you are having a Bridal consultation and trial tan. 

What should I wear to my appointment

I would suggest that you wear dark loose clothes and flip flops or sliders. No leggings please, and bear in mind that bras will carry a risk of strap lines. But if you are not worried then please wear whatever you are comfortable in. You do not need to tan naked, disposables are provided and you may wear your own dark underwear if you wish 

Will I look orange?

No, you won't look orange. Spray Tan solutions have come a long way and no longer look orange. The only way to appear too dark for your skin tone is to ignore advice and use a tan solution that is too dark for your skin's natural tanning ability. 

Are there any restrictions to tanning?

Yes, there are times when I cannot tan you, these are as follows:

Pregnancy - tanning is only permitted after 12 weeks

Piercings - I cannot tan you if you have any open unhealed puncture marks or wounds and this applies to Botox as well. 

Eczema flare-ups - I cannot tan sore skin and results are not guaranteed

Sunburn - I cannot tan over sunburn - your skin must heal first

Allergies to known ingredients - please request ingredient lists if required

Clients under 18 require consent and a chaperone patch test is compulsory 

Old self-tan must be completely removed before your next spray tan

Can I tan whilst on my period

Yes you can. Tans are occasionally affected by hormones, so your shade may look a little different than usual; other than that, you are able to tan. 

What is drying powder

Drying powder is a fine silky finishing product that is applied after your tan to ensure that you are completely dry, stop any transfer onto your clothes and make you feel comfortable and not sticky. 

What is DHA?

DHA stands for Dihydroxyacetone, which is the active ingredient used in many self-tanning products, including spray tans. It's a colorless sugar that, when applied to the skin, interacts with the amino acids in the outer layer of the skin to produce a brownish pigment. This chemical reaction is what gives the skin a tan-like appearance.

Here's a quick breakdown of how DHA works:

  • DHA reacts with dead skin cells: It reacts with the proteins in the dead cells of your skin's outermost layer, forming a temporary tan.
  • Gradual fading: The tan typically fades as the skin naturally sheds its dead cells, which is why spray tans usually last 5–7 days, depending on your skin type and how you care for it.
  • Safe for use on skin: DHA is considered safe when used topically, which is why it’s the main ingredient in spray tans, lotions, and mousse products.

Pro tip: Since DHA affects the outer layer of your skin, it's important to exfoliate before a spray tan to ensure an even application.
